Sylvia was born and bred in Glasgow and left school with excellent qualifications, pursued a career in nursing, midwifery and intensive care and was rapidly promoted to ‘Theatre Sister’ in Open Heart Surgery.
With an intense interest in health and nutrition she started her own Health Food business and ran an independent shop and a franchise in House of Fraser, Glasgow. After a move to the south of England, Sylvia worked for several years in sales in the Pharmaceutical Industry where she had excellent training in sales/marketing and presenting.
This led her into ‘Industrial Motivation Ltd’ where she regularly ran breakfast meetings for senior executives followed by presentations to their board of directors and subsequent motivational campaigns within their organisations.
After a family career break Sylvia took on the role of Business Development Director for a finance company and it was during that time that she discovered the power of networking which led her to her current role of Regional Director for The Athena Network.
Sylvia is a born networker and has set up 8 very successful lunchtime networking groups for business women in Bucks and Berkshire as well as 4 more informal Cappuccino Connections groups.
Sylvia’s diverse experience in networking has led to her developing training sessions to help others maximise the vast potential of the whole networking opportunity. She also enlists the services of some of the trainers in her groups to run a continuous programme of workshops on many aspects of business and personal development
Sylvia’s success within The Athena Network has led to her taking on an additional role as National Sales Director responsible for the growth of The Athena Network in the UK.

I joined the Athena Network as part of Sylvia’s Maidenhead Tuesday group in September 2008 and I have found it a great source of support, companionship and inspiration. The women I have met through Athena are without exception hugely supportive of each other and, as an independent business owner, I have enjoyed the comradarie and opportunity to call upon a pool of knowledge across many different business disciplines. I’ve also visited other Athena groups within our region, resulting in some £2,500 worth of new business since the start of 2010.
